The Urantia
Book presents a grand vision of mortal ascension, revealing that
humans, as faith sons of God, are destined for an eternal career through divine
fusion. While many mortals achieve Father fusion—uniting with their
indwelling Thought Adjuster—some take alternative paths, experiencing Son
fusion or Spirit fusion. These three forms of
fusion define the ascender’s ultimate destiny within the divine hierarchy
of the universe.
Father-Fused Mortals: The Path to Paradise
Father-fused mortals achieve the highest form of personal
union with God by fusing with a fragment of the Universal Father, known as the
Thought Adjuster. This fusion guarantees eternal survival and progression
toward Paradise (40:7.5). The Adjusters, which indwell mortals from early life,
are pre-personal spirit fragments sent by the Father to guide them toward
divine perfection.
Upon fusion, these mortals become one with their Adjusters,
mirroring the unity seen in Christ Michael’s dual nature as both Son of God and
Son of Man (40:7.2). This fusion not only ensures survival after death but also
makes these beings eligible to traverse the Havona circuits and ultimately
reach the Universal Father on Paradise—a destiny unavailable to Son- and
Spirit-fused mortals (40:7.3).
Moreover, Father fusion opens an endless career of universal
service, making these beings fit for assignments beyond the grand universe
(40:7.5). Their final destination is incorporation into the Corps of the
Finality, where they await an unrevealed destiny in the outer universes of the
future.
Son-Fused Mortals: The Servants of the Superuniverse
While most surviving mortals achieve Father fusion, a select
group—due to unexplained incompatibilities—cannot fuse with their Adjusters.
However, such individuals are not guilty of any failure; they have successfully
ascended through the evolutionary training worlds but still struggle with
fusion (40:8.3). When this occurs, a court of inquiry is convened, and upon
confirming that no known failure is present, the Adjuster returns to
Divinington, and the mortal instead fuses with a fragment of the Creator Son
(40:8.3).
Son-fused mortals are confined to the superuniverse of their
nativity, meaning they do not ascend to Havona or Paradise as a class (40:8.4).
They become essential contributors to superuniverse administration alongside
their Adjuster-fused brethren. While they do not permanently reside on
Paradise, they may occasionally visit it on superuniverse assignments (40:8.5).
Interestingly, Son fusion does not necessarily limit
spiritual growth—some modifications allow select Son-fused beings to ascend to
Paradise. This implies that while their destiny is primarily localized, divine
wisdom occasionally reassigns them for higher responsibilities (40:9.5).
Spirit-Fused Mortals: The Citizens of the Local Universe
Spirit-fused mortals follow yet another unique path. Instead
of fusing with a Thought Adjuster or a fragment of a Creator Son, they unite
with a spirit fragment of the Divine Minister, the Infinite Spirit's
representative in the local universe (40:9.3).
Unlike other fusions, Spirit fusion occurs only after mortal
resurrection in the morontia life—never during material existence (40:9.1).
While Spirit-fused mortals are not Adjuster fusion candidates, they still
benefit from Adjuster guidance during their earthly life, which helps develop
their soul (40:9.3). However, once they awaken in the mansion worlds, their
Adjusters depart for new assignments, and they receive Spirit fusion in their
place.
A major distinction of Spirit fusion is that these mortals
lose personal memory of their earthly experiences, as the Adjuster takes all
its acquired memories back to Divinington (40:9.2). Thus, they awaken as if
newly created beings but can reconstruct memories through celestial guidance
and records.
Spirit-fused mortals are typically restricted to their local
universe and do not ascend to Paradise. However, a select few are assigned to
higher roles in superuniverse administration (40:9.7). They serve as permanent
local universe citizens, providing stability and accumulated wisdom that
contributes to the local universe's development (40:9.8).
Why Some Mortals Do Not Achieve Father Fusion
The Urantia Book explains that the failure of some
mortals to fuse with their Adjusters is not due to sin, rebellion, or willful
rejection of God (40:8.3). Rather, an unknown synchronizing difficulty prevents
fusion. Some mortals experience delayed fusion, achieving it only after
advancing through extensive morontia training, while a small number never
attain Adjuster fusion at all (40:8.2).
When fusion proves impossible, divine wisdom intervenes,
ensuring these individuals still receive an eternal destiny—either through Son
fusion or Spirit fusion. This highlights that God’s plan accommodates all
sincere ascenders, even if their path diverges from the standard Adjuster
fusion model.
A Broader Perspective: No Mortal Is Forgotten
The Urantia Book
emphasizes that no destiny is inherently greater or lesser; rather, each
fulfills a different role in God’s cosmic design. Father-fused mortals pursue
the divine adventure of finality, Son-fused mortals anchor the superuniverse
administration, and Spirit-fused mortals stabilize local universes.
Despite these differences, all fusion types share a common
sonship with God and an eternal purpose (40:10.13). Even those who do not reach
Paradise immediately may one day receive new revelations of destiny, possibly
extending their roles beyond current universe boundaries.
Thus, while Father fusion is the most direct path to the
Universal Father, Son and Spirit fusion are no less integral to the divine
plan. All fusion mortals ultimately contribute to the Supreme Being’s
evolution, ensuring the perfecting of time-space realities in harmony with
God’s eternal will.
Final Thoughts
The destinies of Father-, Son-, and Spirit-fused mortals
reflect the diversity of God's plan for His ascending children. While some are
destined for Paradise finality, others serve vital roles within their
superuniverses and local universes.
Regardless of fusion type, every ascender is a cherished
child of God, assured of an eternal career filled with service, adventure, and
divine fulfillment. The fusion path may vary, but the goal remains the same—to
progress ever upward in the unfolding divine plan, contributing to the
perfection of the cosmos.
What awaits beyond? The Urantia
Book hints that even greater destinies lie ahead—perhaps new universes,
fresh challenges, and endless opportunities to grow in God’s infinite love.
