When we peer into the night sky, we are met with a humbling
expanse of stars, planets, and galaxies. Yet, according to The Urantia Book,
what we observe through even the most advanced telescopes is but a minuscule
fraction of a vastly more complex and spiritually significant cosmos.
This article explores the idea of the "Universe of Universes" as revealed in The Urantia Book, highlighting what lies beyond our galaxy, the intricate organization of creation, and the divine purpose driving it all.
Our Local Place in the Cosmos
Our Milky Way galaxy is only a component of a much larger
system called a "local universe." Specifically, we reside in the
local universe of Nebadon, one of 700,000 such creations in the grand design.
These local universes are organized into larger units called
minor sectors, major sectors, and superuniverses. Our
superuniverse, Orvonton, is the seventh and final of these evolutionary
creations that revolve around the spiritual hub of all existence, the central
universe of Havona (15:2.1–2.8 (164.1–8)).
This hierarchical structure reveals a universe that is not
random or chaotic but one that is spiritually governed, managed, and directed.
The entire cosmos is fundamentally personal, spiritual, and purposive, echoing
the divine will of the Universal
Father.
Havona: The Eternal Core
At the canter of all creation lies Havona, a perfect and
eternal universe. Unlike the seven evolutionary superuniverses, Havona was not
created in time—it simply exists as the eternal nucleus of reality.
It is composed of one billion perfect worlds, each uniquely
reflecting divine perfection (14:1.3–4 (152.1–2)). Havona is not merely a
physical structure but a spiritual centre, the training ground for ascending
souls and the dwelling place of deity.
The Outer Space Levels
Beyond the seven superuniverses lie the "outer space
levels," vast uncharted regions that extend far beyond the realm of
current astronomical comprehension. These zones are described as areas of
tremendous physical activity—forming galaxies, nebulae, and other space
phenomena in staggering numbers (11:7.4 (124.6)).
The Urantia Papers categorize four outer space levels that
encircle the grand universe in concentric zones, and these levels are in
various stages of cosmic development.
The first outer space level is already undergoing physical
mobilization and, according to revelators, it will one day become the domain of
new types of created beings and divine administration.
The other three levels lie even farther out, remaining
shrouded in cosmic mystery. These outer regions will eventually be activated
and integrated into the universal plan, suggesting an ever-expanding creation
with no fixed end (12:4.11 (130.8)).
What Lies Beyond?
The natural question arises: What lies beyond the outer
space levels? According to The Urantia Book, beyond these levels
there may exist even greater and more complex expressions of divine creativity.
However, such regions are not yet revealed in detail. What we
are told is that the universe is both infinite in potential and eternal in
purpose—God’s creativity is boundless, and future revelations will likely
uncover ever more awe-inspiring aspects of His creation (11:4.5 (121.6)).
As the cosmos expands, so too does the realm of spiritual
attainment. The destiny of evolutionary beings is not merely to reach a
final static point of existence, but to continuously ascend, learn, and
experience deeper communion with God. The very fabric of creation is designed
to facilitate this eternal spiritual journey.
Cosmic Citizenship and the Ascension Plan
Human beings, though seemingly insignificant on a material
scale, play a vital role in this cosmic scheme. The Urantia revelation
emphasizes that mortal ascenders will one day explore and serve in these outer
regions as perfected beings. Our final destiny lies in service,
discovery, and participation in God's eternal adventure (32:5.7 (364.3)).
Thus, what lies beyond our galaxy is not only vast and
materially unimaginable—it is spiritually purposeful. Our evolving souls are
destined to become citizens of the universe of universes, labouring alongside
divine personalities in fulfilling the Universal Father's will.
Final Thoughts
The question “What lies beyond our galaxy?” leads us into the
grandest of all revelations: the universe is not only a material creation but a
divine, spiritual, and personal one.
Beyond the Milky Way lie superuniverses, and beyond them,
outer space levels, all pointing toward an ever-expanding, ever-evolving
reality governed by a loving and purposeful Creator.
Far from being cosmic orphans in a lonely universe, we are
participants in a vast and magnificent journey—from time into eternity, from
imperfection to perfection, from matter to spirit.
As revealed in The
Urantia Book, this journey is eternal, the universe is infinite, and
God's love and purpose encompass it all (12:1 (130.2)).
