At the heart of The Urantia Book lies a central and
soul-stirring truth: God is a loving Father, and all beings across time
and space are His children. But who is this “Universal Father,” and what does
it mean to truly understand His infinite love?
The First Source and Centre: The Original Reality
“The Universal Father is the God of all creation, the First
Source and Center of all things and beings” (The Urantia Book, 1:0.1).
According to The
Urantia Book, the Universal Father is the First Source and Center of
all things and beings (Paper 1, Section 0.1). He is the uncaused cause, the
eternal origin of reality, the one who “simply is.” Everything that
exists—spiritual, mindal, or material—finds its source in Him.
He is not merely a distant cosmic force. He is deeply
personal, infinitely loving, and constantly seeking a relationship with each of
His children.
Fatherhood and the Siblinghood of All Beings
God is not only the determiner of destiny; he is man's
eternal Father. (The Urantia Book, 1:0.2)
One of the most profound teachings of The Urantia Book
is that God’s relationship to creation is not primarily as a ruler, but as a Father.
This is not metaphorical; it is deeply literal. God shares Himself with every
personal being, bestowing a fragment of His own divine presence—the Thought
Adjuster—to live within us (2:1.7).
This indwelling spirit is the voice that gently urges us
toward truth, beauty, and goodness, guiding our soul toward the divine embrace.
The Father’s love is so deeply personal that He chooses to walk with each
individual, quietly and faithfully.
Infinite Love Without Partiality
“God is love; therefore, his only personal attitude toward
the affairs of the universe is always a reaction of divine affection.” (The
Urantia Book, 2:5.1)
The Universal Father’s love is infinite and impartial. Unlike
human love, which may be conditioned by performance, appearance, or closeness,
the Father’s love embraces all—the mighty Creator Sons as well as the
most struggling mortal on an evolutionary world.
His love is not sentimental; it is intelligent and
purposeful. It always seeks the best for each soul: eternal growth, spiritual
fulfilment, and joyful service. Even divine discipline is an act of love, aimed
at guiding souls toward higher values and truer realities.
The Universal Father Is Knowable
The Father in heaven loves his children, and therefore should
you learn to love one another (The Urantia Book, 140:5.1).
Though He is infinite, eternal, and absolute, the Universal
Father can be known—and even more, He wants to be known. This is
not a mystical escape into nothingness; it is an unfolding personal
relationship. As Jesus taught in his life on Urantia:
Jesus’ life was the clearest revelation of the Universal
Father’s character. In Him, divinity touched humanity. The way Jesus related to
others—with compassion, courage, and deep inner peace—is a living example of
how the Father works through and with His children.
The Purpose of Life: Becoming Like the Father
“Be you perfect, even as I am perfect.” (The Urantia Book,
1:0.3).
God’s love is not passive—it calls us upward. We are not just
loved; we are invited to become like the Father. The eternal mandate is
simple yet sublime:
This spiritual journey—from imperfection to God-likeness—is
not a lonely one. The Father surrounds us with help: guardian angels, divine
Sons, the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, and our indwelling Adjusters. Each
soul, no matter how lowly, is deeply valued and eternally significant.
A Love That Transcends Space and Time
God loves each individual as an individual child in the
heavenly family (The Urantia Book, 12:7.9).
The Universal Father’s love transcends distance, culture,
even religion. He is not the God of one planet, one people, or one faith. He is
the Father of all personality throughout the grand universe.
This means that every person you meet is your spiritual
sibling. Every act of kindness, every truth told, every courageous stand for
good, echoes the heartbeat of the Universal Father.
Living in the Light of the Father’s Love
Understanding the Universal Father is not merely an
intellectual pursuit—it’s a heart response. It’s living in trust, seeking the
good in others, forgiving freely, and daring to believe that you are unconditionally
loved.
In a world that often feels fractured and fear-driven, the
revelation of the Universal Father in The Urantia Book
is a beacon of hope: You are never alone, never unloved, and always called
higher. The Infinite God walks beside you, not as a judge, but as a devoted and
divine Father.
